Conservation Biology and Geography
Conservation Biology and Geography is a degree that addresses two of the most urgent concerns of our time: the protection of biological diversity and the understanding of the physical and human environments in which that diversity exists. Conservation biology focuses on the protection and management of nature, examining the human and environmental factors that threaten species, habitats, and ecosystems and developing scientific approaches to sustaining plant and animal biodiversity in the UK and internationally. Geography adds the broader spatial and social dimensions, including the human activities, economic pressures, land-use patterns, and policy environments that shape what conservation can achieve and how it must be planned.
At Liverpool Hope University, this three-year, full-time degree draws on the natural sciences to build rigorous understanding of ecological processes, biodiversity measurement, and conservation management, while the geography component develops skills in spatial analysis, environmental assessment, and the human and physical processes that interact with biodiversity. The programme includes a sandwich year, work placements, and the option of a year abroad, giving you the chance to apply your skills in professional conservation settings and to encounter ecological and geographical challenges in different national and regional contexts.
