Construction Management
Construction management is concerned with planning, coordinating, and delivering the built environment projects that shape every aspect of modern life, from housing and hospitals to infrastructure and commercial development. It sits between the technical discipline of construction and the organisational demands of project management, requiring practitioners who understand both how buildings and civil engineering projects are put together and how to manage the resources, timelines, contracts, and people involved in bringing them to completion. At Birmingham City University this three-year full-time programme gives you a grounding in both the technical and managerial dimensions of the field. You will develop knowledge of construction technology, building structures, project planning, cost management, contract law, and the practical organisation of construction projects. A sandwich year and work placement experience are built into the programme, giving you extended professional experience on real construction projects before you graduate. Graduates move into roles as site managers, project managers, quantity surveyors, contracts managers, and construction consultants across residential, commercial, and infrastructure sectors. Many go on to professional membership of the Chartered Institute of Building or other relevant bodies, working towards chartered status. Others continue to postgraduate study in construction management, quantity surveying, or project management.
