Construction Project Management

Construction project management is the discipline that ensures buildings and infrastructure are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality. It sits at the intersection of the technical world of construction and the management skills required to plan, coordinate and lead complex projects involving many organisations, contractors, and stakeholders. A successful construction project manager must understand design and structural principles well enough to make informed decisions while also commanding the commercial, contractual and leadership skills that hold a project together.

At Aston University this three-year full-time programme is dual-accredited, meaning it meets the professional requirements of relevant industry bodies and positions you to pursue chartered status after graduation. You will develop skills in project planning and scheduling, contract management, risk assessment, procurement, cost control, and the leadership and communication abilities required to manage diverse teams on site and in the office. The programme includes a sandwich year, giving you the opportunity to spend a substantial period in industry, and a year abroad, broadening your experience of different construction markets and project environments.

A work placement is embedded in the course, ensuring you have real professional exposure before you graduate.

Construction project managers are in sustained demand as the UK and wider world face substantial infrastructure, housing, and energy transition challenges. Graduates work as project managers on commercial, residential, infrastructure, and public sector schemes for contractors, consultants, developers, and client organisations. Career paths include site management, commercial management, programme management, and client-side project leadership.

The dual accreditation supports progression to chartered membership of professional bodies relevant to the construction industry. Postgraduate study in construction project management, quantity surveying, or engineering management is also a route for those wishing to specialise further.
