Construction Project Management
Construction project management is the professional discipline responsible for planning, organising and controlling the delivery of construction and infrastructure projects, ensuring that buildings, roads, bridges and other structures are completed to the required standard, within budget and on time. It brings together knowledge of engineering and construction technology, contract law, procurement, planning, cost management, health and safety, sustainability and the leadership skills required to coordinate complex multi-stakeholder projects. At the University of the West of England, Bristol, this part-time programme develops your competences across the full range of construction project management practice. You will study construction technology and materials, project planning and control, quantity surveying, risk management, building information modelling, procurement strategy, contract administration and environmental sustainability, building the technical knowledge that underpins professional practice. The part-time mode allows you to study while working in construction or a related field, integrating your learning with direct professional experience.
The programme includes a sandwich year and a work placement, providing additional structured opportunities to develop and apply your skills in professional environments. Graduates move into careers as project managers, site managers, quantity surveyors, construction managers, contracts managers, employers' agents and client-side construction professionals across the residential, commercial, civil engineering and infrastructure sectors. Professional development typically leads toward chartered membership of the Chartered Institute of Building or the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Many graduates also progress to postgraduate study in construction management, project management or related built environment disciplines.
