Creative and Professional Writing

Writing is everywhere. From the films we watch, the television we stream, and the books we read, to the social media posts we compose, the marketing pitches that surround us, and the news stories we encounter across print and digital platforms. A degree in Creative and Professional Writing takes this ubiquity seriously, training you to produce work that is not only well-crafted but purposeful, whether you are writing fiction, journalism, screenplays, or content for organisations that need to communicate clearly and compellingly.

At the University of Westminster, you will explore both the creative and the practical dimensions of writing as a profession. You will develop your voice across different forms and genres, learning what makes narrative, argument, and style work, and you will also engage with the industries and contexts in which professional writers operate. A sandwich year and year abroad are available, offering the chance to gain industry experience or study in a different cultural context, both of which can be transformative for a writer. Graduates of creative and professional writing programmes go on to careers across the full spectrum of the writing and communications industries.
