About this course

Creative computing sits at the intersection of computation and creative practice, treating programming and digital systems not just as technical tools but as expressive media through which artists, designers, and makers can develop new forms, experiences, and ideas. It reflects a conviction that the most interesting work in digital culture often happens at the boundary between technical knowledge and artistic imagination, and that practitioners who can work fluently across both are increasingly important in a wide range of creative industries.

At Goldsmiths' College, this three-year full-time programme draws on Goldsmiths' longstanding reputation in art, design, and cultural theory to situate creative computing within a genuinely interdisciplinary context. You will develop programming skills and technical understanding of interactive systems, data, networks, and physical computing, while also engaging with the critical and conceptual questions that creative work demands. Projects and practice are central to the learning experience, encouraging you to experiment, take risks, and develop your own creative identity as a technologist and maker.

The programme includes a sandwich year with a work placement, giving you the opportunity to work in a professional environment and apply your skills in a real creative or technology context before returning to complete your degree.

Graduates from creative computing go on to work as interactive designers, creative technologists, developers in games and interactive media, UX designers, artists working with digital and physical media, and researchers. The combination of creative and technical skills is valued in museums and galleries, digital agencies, games studios, broadcast media, and technology companies with design-conscious cultures. Further study is also a pathway for those wishing to deepen their practice or pursue academic research at the intersection of art and technology.
