About this course

Creative direction and curation for fashion is a discipline concerned with the visual and conceptual language through which fashion communicates. It sits at the intersection of styling, art direction, photography, set design and cultural analysis, asking how images are constructed, what they mean, and how they connect the fashion object to broader narratives of identity, subculture, desire and aspiration. Creative directors and fashion curators shape the way collections are presented to the world, through editorial shoots, campaign imagery, catwalk environments and cultural events, and their work is as much about storytelling as it is about clothing.

At Nottingham Trent University you will develop the conceptual and practical skills needed to work across the full spectrum of fashion communication, from image-making and set design through to the curation of exhibitions, cultural programming and brand narratives. You will engage with fashion's relationship to music, film, gaming and subcultures, studying how scenes and communities generate their own visual identities and how those identities travel into mainstream fashion and media. You will learn to work with lighting, location, styling, soundtrack and the many other elements that together produce the images and experiences that define how fashion looks and feels.

The programme runs over three years full time.

Graduates move into roles as creative directors, fashion editors, stylists, art directors, set designers, curators, brand strategists and cultural consultants, working for fashion brands, magazines, cultural institutions, advertising agencies and independent creative studios. The analytical and creative skills developed on this degree transfer broadly into the wider creative industries, including music, film and television, digital content and luxury branding. Postgraduate study in fashion communication, curatorial practice or cultural studies is a route for those who wish to deepen their specialism.

Genuinely worthwhile
I've grown so much academically and personally here. The best part: critique sessions are tough but push your work to the next level. If I'm honest, would like to see more industry guest speakers in later years. On the city — good transport

Good but not perfect
It's been a mixed experience, but mostly positive. The best part: small-group tutorials really push your thinking. If I'm honest, first-year classes can be quite large. On the city — the city is a brilliant student city with plenty to do ou
