Creative Producing

Creative producing sits at the meeting point of artistic ambition and practical delivery. The producer's role in theatre and film is to bring creative projects into existence, by identifying ideas worth developing, securing the resources to realise them, building the teams to make them, and managing the administrative, financial, and promotional work that carries a project from initial concept to audience. It is a discipline that demands both creative intelligence and real organisational and entrepreneurial ability.

This three-year full-time programme at East 15 Acting School, part of the University of Essex, offers industry-focused training designed for students who want to work at the centre of creative production. You will develop the skills to create, produce, administer, and promote work across theatre and short film, two forms that share many structural and logistical challenges while each having distinct creative and commercial cultures. The curriculum is hands-on, and you will work on live projects and develop the kind of entrepreneurial thinking that the independent creative sector demands.

With a typical entry tariff of 152 points, the programme seeks students with genuine creative drive alongside an interest in how productions actually get made and delivered.

Graduates from creative producing programmes move into a wide range of roles across the performing arts, film, and creative industries. Theatre producing, company management, and arts administration are direct paths, as are roles in film development, short film production, and broadcast production. Many graduates work in festivals, arts venues, and producing houses, or build careers in the independent sector as freelance producers developing their own projects.
