About this course

Cyber security and digital forensics addresses two of the most pressing challenges of the digital age: protecting systems and data from malicious attack, and investigating the digital evidence left behind when crimes are committed. Cyber security draws on computer science, network engineering, and cryptography to identify vulnerabilities, design defences, and respond to incidents. Digital forensics applies structured investigative methods to recover, preserve, and analyse digital evidence from devices, networks, and cloud systems, in ways that meet the evidential standards required by courts and regulatory bodies.

Together they cover both the prevention and the investigation of digital crime.

At Middlesex University this three-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, providing an additional year of preparation for students who would benefit from strengthening their technical foundations before the main degree. A sandwich year is also available, giving you the option of an extended period of professional work experience, and a work placement is built into the degree. You will study cybercrime prevention and investigation using industry-standard software and tools, developing practical skills in network security, malware analysis, incident response, and digital evidence handling.

The combination of cyber security and forensics gives you a professional profile that is relevant to both the technical and the investigative sides of this rapidly growing field.
