About this course

Cyber security is one of the most rapidly growing fields in computing, driven by the increasing integration of digital technology into homes, workplaces, and public services and the corresponding growth of cybercrime as a global threat. As computing technology becomes more central to everything we do, cyber security professionals are in high demand, and the field rewards people with both the technical skills to understand and exploit vulnerabilities and the analytical judgement to design systems that are genuinely secure by design. With this BSc (Hons) at Manchester Metropolitan University, you will be part of the solution as you learn to investigate breaches and harness secure systems.

This three-year full-time programme gives you a solid grounding in networking, systems administration, cryptography, ethical hacking, malware analysis, digital forensics, security architecture, and the legal and governance frameworks that shape how organisations manage information security risk. Practical skills are central to the programme, and you will work in realistic lab environments that simulate the kinds of challenges cyber security professionals face in practice. The sandwich year and work placement opportunities are an important part of the programme, giving you professional experience in a real security environment before you complete your degree.

Cyber security graduates are highly employable across a wide range of sectors. Roles as security analysts, penetration testers, incident responders, digital forensics investigators, security architects, and security operations centre analysts are all realistic destinations. Financial services, government, healthcare, defence, consultancy, and technology companies all employ cyber security professionals in growing numbers.

The technical depth of the programme also provides a foundation for postgraduate study in cyber security, information assurance, or computer science research.
