Cyber Security
Cyber security is the discipline concerned with protecting digital systems, networks, and data from attack, compromise, and misuse. As societies have become more deeply dependent on digital infrastructure, the consequences of security failures have grown correspondingly serious, from individual financial fraud through to attacks on critical national infrastructure and state-level espionage. The discipline draws on computer science, mathematics, network engineering, and law to address a set of challenges that are constantly evolving as both attack methods and defensive technologies develop.
At Teesside University, this part-time programme covers network design solutions and current trends in network design, including the increased demand for bandwidth and wireless solutions. You will get hands-on experience using key network simulation software, and cover security threats and their solutions, assessing and managing security risk, and addressing the legal requirements and social and ethical issues that surround cyber security practice. The programme develops both your technical capabilities in network security and your broader understanding of the organisational and regulatory context within which security work takes place.
