About this course

Cyber security is one of the most critical disciplines of the digital age. As virtually every organisation, from hospitals and banks to governments and schools, depends on computer-based systems, the ability to protect those systems from attack, intrusion, and disruption has become a matter of national and economic security. The frequency and sophistication of cyber attacks continues to grow, and the demand for graduates who can design secure systems, identify vulnerabilities, respond to incidents, and develop defensive strategies is expanding rapidly across every sector.

At Derby this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year providing a supported entry route for students who need additional preparation in computing before advancing to the main degree. You will develop technical expertise in network security, cryptography, ethical hacking, security architecture, digital forensics, and risk management, alongside the problem-solving and analytical skills that effective cyber security work demands. The programme includes a sandwich year giving you substantial professional experience in a cyber security or technology organisation, a year abroad for those wishing to engage with the discipline in an international context, and work placement opportunities.
