About this course

Cyber security is the discipline of protecting digital systems, networks, data, and organisations from unauthorised access, attack, and disruption. As the world's critical infrastructure, financial systems, communications networks, and personal data have moved online, the ability to defend those systems against increasingly sophisticated threats has become one of the most important capabilities in the technology sector and far beyond it. Cyber security practitioners work across government, financial services, healthcare, defence, and technology organisations, and the demand for qualified professionals in this field consistently exceeds supply.

At Wrexham University, this three-year programme with foundation year gives you the opportunity to train in the university's cutting-edge Cyber Innovation Academy, equipped with advanced technology to tackle real-world cyber threats in the way professional cybersecurity teams actually work. This hands-on, practice-oriented approach develops both the technical skills and the professional mindset needed to respond to the threats that real organisations face. You will study network security, cryptography, ethical hacking and penetration testing, digital forensics, incident response, and the legal and ethical frameworks that govern cyber security practice.

The programme includes a foundation year, providing additional preparation before the main degree begins, and runs over four years in total. A sandwich year and work placement are also included, giving you direct professional experience in cyber security environments and the chance to develop your skills and professional networks in practice.

Graduates from cyber security degrees are in strong demand across a very wide range of sectors and organisations. Common roles include security analyst, penetration tester, security engineer, incident responder, digital forensics analyst, security consultant, and risk and compliance specialist. Government agencies, intelligence services, the financial sector, healthcare, and technology companies all recruit cyber security graduates.
