About this course

Data Science and Artificial Intelligence has emerged as one of the defining fields of the current era, shaping how organisations make decisions, how services are personalised, how diseases are detected and how resources are allocated at scale. At its core it is the discipline of extracting meaning from data, combining mathematics, statistics, computing and domain knowledge to turn raw information into insight and action. Crucially, it also involves understanding the limits and risks of automated systems, including questions of bias, privacy and accountability, which are as important as the technical skills themselves.

At Leeds Beckett University this three-year full-time BSc develops your technical confidence alongside the critical judgement needed to use data and AI responsibly. You will learn how to collect, process, analyse and model data, and how to build and evaluate artificial intelligence systems that can support decision-making across a wide range of contexts. The course includes a sandwich year, giving you the opportunity to spend time in an industry placement environment before returning to complete your final year with practical experience behind you.

There is also a year abroad option, as well as work placement opportunities woven into the programme structure.

Graduates in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence are highly sought after across almost every sector of the economy. Many go into roles such as data analyst, machine learning engineer, AI developer, business intelligence specialist or data engineer. Industries actively recruiting include finance, healthcare, retail, logistics, media, government and technology.

The combination of technical depth and critical awareness that the degree develops means graduates are equipped not just to build systems but to understand their implications. Postgraduate study in machine learning, data science, statistics or computer science is a natural progression for those who wish to go further.
