About this course

Data science with artificial intelligence is a degree that addresses the two most transformative computational developments of the present era. Data science is concerned with extracting knowledge and insight from large, complex datasets, combining statistical methods, programming and domain knowledge to turn raw information into decisions and value. Artificial intelligence extends this by developing systems that can learn from data, recognise patterns, make predictions and perform tasks that previously required human intelligence.

Together they define the technical foundation of a rapidly growing set of industries and professional roles.

At Robert Gordon University this programme is designed to provide the practical computing and analytical skills needed for a data-driven professional future. You will study programming, data structures, statistical modelling, machine learning, deep learning and the tools and frameworks that are standard in the data science and AI industries. The course runs over four years full time and includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and work-placement experience, giving you a substantial combination of professional and international experience alongside your academic studies.

These structured opportunities to work in real data-science and AI environments develop both your technical competence and the professional confidence that employers value.

You will develop skills in Python programming, database management, data visualisation, machine learning model development and deployment, and the communication of analytical findings to non-specialist audiences. The ability to work with real data on real problems is emphasised throughout.

Graduates from data science with AI programmes move into careers as data scientists, machine learning engineers, data analysts, AI product managers and research scientists across technology companies, financial services, healthcare, retail and the public sector. Postgraduate study in data science, AI or related computing fields is also a well-established route for those seeking specialist or research careers.
