About this course

Data science is the discipline of extracting knowledge and insight from large and complex datasets, combining methods from statistics, computer science, and domain-specific knowledge to address real-world problems in business, science, healthcare, and public policy. As the volume of digital data has grown and the tools for analysing it have become more powerful, data scientists have become central figures in organisations trying to understand their customers, optimise their operations, and make better-informed decisions.

At Coventry University, this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, making it accessible to students who need to build their mathematical and computing foundations before entering the main degree. Across the programme you will develop skills in programming, statistical analysis, machine learning, data visualisation, database management, and the application of AI and analytics to real problems. You will also develop the communication skills needed to translate findings for non-technical audiences, which is as important in data science as technical competence.

A sandwich year places you in a professional environment for a sustained period, a year abroad broadens your experience, and work placement experience is integrated throughout the programme.
