Diagnostic Radiography

Diagnostic radiography is the healthcare profession responsible for producing the medical images that doctors, clinicians, and surgeons depend on to diagnose disease, monitor treatment, and plan interventions. Radiographers operate a range of imaging technologies, including X-ray, CT (computed tomography), MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), and fluoroscopy, working with patients across the full range of clinical settings from emergency departments and orthopaedic units to oncology and cardiac care. The role requires both technical expertise with complex equipment and the communication and patient care skills needed to support people who are often anxious or unwell.

At the University of Salford, this three-year full-time degree equips you with the skills and professional competence to become a qualified radiographer, combining high-quality patient care with the science and technology that underpins medical imaging. You will develop your understanding of anatomy, pathology, radiation physics, and imaging technology alongside the clinical skills and professional judgement needed to work safely and effectively with patients. Substantial clinical placements are integrated throughout the programme, ensuring that your academic learning is connected to real clinical practice and that you graduate ready for professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Diagnostic radiography graduates register with the HCPC and work in NHS hospitals, private healthcare providers, and community imaging services across the UK and internationally.
