Digital Film Production

Digital film production is the practice of making films using the full range of tools available to contemporary filmmakers: digital cameras and recording systems, non-linear editing software, visual effects and colour grading tools, and the online distribution platforms that have transformed how audiences find and watch films. The digital revolution has not just changed the tools of filmmaking: it has changed who can make films, what kinds of films can be made and how they reach their audiences. A degree in digital film production prepares you to work effectively in that changed and changing landscape.

At Birmingham City University, the three-year full-time programme develops your craft skills across the principal disciplines of filmmaking: directing, cinematography, editing, sound and production management. You will work with professional equipment and software throughout the course, building a portfolio of work and developing the collaborative professional habits that all forms of film and television production require. The degree includes a sandwich year and a work placement, giving you the opportunity to spend time in a professional film or television environment before graduation.
