About this course

Digital Marketing brings the full toolkit of marketing strategy into the online environment, applying creativity, data analysis and strategic thinking to the challenge of reaching and engaging audiences across the digital channels that now dominate commercial and cultural life. Search engine optimisation, paid advertising, social media marketing, content creation, email marketing, e-commerce strategy and marketing analytics are all dimensions of a field that is evolving rapidly as platforms, technologies and consumer behaviours continue to change. A degree in digital marketing equips you with both the technical skills to use these tools and the strategic understanding to deploy them effectively.

At the University of Portsmouth, this full-time three-year programme includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad and work placement opportunities, giving you substantial professional and international experience alongside your academic studies. You will develop skills in crafting compelling content, building social media strategies, using data-driven insights to optimise campaigns and understanding how digital channels are integrated into broader marketing strategy. The placement year provides direct professional experience in digital marketing roles, developing the portfolio and professional skills that employers look for.

Digital Marketing graduates are in high demand across virtually every sector. Roles as digital marketing executive, social media manager, SEO specialist, content strategist, PPC manager, email marketing manager and e-commerce analyst are all natural career destinations. Agency roles offer variety and pace across multiple client accounts, while in-house roles provide the opportunity to develop deep expertise in a specific brand or sector.

Many graduates also develop careers as freelancers or digital entrepreneurs. Further study in marketing, data analytics or business management provides a route to more senior and specialist roles.
