Digital media and information studies combined with Celtic civilisation brings together a focus on how information and media operate in contemporary digital environments and an immersive engagement with one of Europe's oldest and most distinctive cultural traditions. Digital media and information studies is concerned with how knowledge is produced, stored, distributed and consumed in the digital age: from the architecture of information systems and the dynamics of social media to the ethics of data and the changing role of libraries and cultural memory institutions. Celtic civilisation, as the University of Glasgow's own description puts it, immerses you in the history of the Celts, the development of their societies, their literature, material culture, art and religion, from earliest times on the European continent to the present-day British Isles.

At the University of Glasgow, this four-year programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study in a different academic and cultural environment. The two strands of the degree are not simply parallel; they can be brought into productive dialogue: how are Celtic languages, texts and traditions preserved, digitised and made accessible in the digital age? What are the challenges and opportunities of digital approaches to cultural heritage?

How do minority cultures and languages navigate contemporary media environments? These are live and important questions.

You will develop skills in information analysis, digital literacy, critical thinking about media and technology, and a deep knowledge of Celtic languages, history and culture. The combination is unusual and creates genuinely distinctive graduates.

Graduates go on to careers in libraries, archives, digital heritage, cultural organisations, broadcasting, journalism, technology, public policy and education. Further study in information science, Celtic studies, digital humanities or cultural heritage is also a natural route.
