About this course

Economics and business is a combination that brings together the analytical tools of economic theory with the applied knowledge of how organisations function in practice. Economics provides the frameworks for understanding how markets allocate resources, how incentives shape behaviour, and how macroeconomic conditions affect the environments in which businesses operate. Business education adds the strategic, operational, and managerial knowledge needed to understand how organisations respond to those conditions, make decisions under uncertainty, and pursue their objectives in competitive markets.

At Swansea this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year for students who benefit from additional preparation before the main degree. The programme is designed for students who want to approach business strategy and organisational practice from a broad perspective, and who wish to apply rigorous quantitative tools to understand their implications for the economy, the environment, and society. You will develop a strong foundation in key economic theories and quantitative analytical tools alongside a portfolio of courses in modern management practice, building the ability to think both rigorously about economic questions and practically about how organisations can address them.

Swansea's coastal setting and strong connections to Welsh and UK business provide a distinctive context for your studies.

Graduates find careers across business management, economic consultancy, financial services, public policy, the civil service, international development, and research. The combination of economic rigour and business knowledge is valued by employers who need people capable of both analytical thinking and practical problem-solving in complex organisational contexts. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in economics, business, finance, or related fields, or pursue professional qualifications in accounting, investment management, or human resource management.

A great decision
The programme genuinely lives up to its reputation. The best part: the teaching staff are genuinely world-class and accessible. If I'm honest, would like to see more industry guest speakers in later years. On the city β€” the city is a brilli…

Genuinely worthwhile
The course has exceeded my expectations. The best part: case-based teaching forces you to think commercially. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” local cost of living is manageable if yo…
