About this course

Economics and mathematics is a pairing that reflects the deep and longstanding connection between the two disciplines. Modern economics is fundamentally mathematical: the modelling of market behaviour, the analysis of data, the testing of theories and the construction of policy recommendations all rely on mathematical and statistical tools. Studying them together allows you to develop genuine command of both the economic reasoning and the formal methods that make economic analysis rigorous and persuasive.

At the University of Stirling, this four-year degree includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study at a partner institution in another country and to bring an international dimension to your economic and mathematical education. You will study microeconomics and macroeconomics, econometrics, game theory and the economics of markets, alongside real analysis, linear algebra, calculus, probability theory and statistics. The combination gives you the tools to build economic models, test them against data and communicate your findings in ways that are mathematically credible.

You will develop the capacity to move between formal proof and applied reasoning, to interpret evidence critically and to engage with economic questions at both theoretical and empirical levels.
