Economics with Finance

Economics with Finance is a degree that combines the broad analytical framework of economics with a specialist focus on financial theory and markets. Economics provides the tools for understanding how individuals, firms, and governments make decisions under constraints, and how markets and institutions coordinate those decisions across the whole economy. Finance applies similar analytical thinking to questions specific to financial markets: how assets are priced, how risk is measured and managed, how corporations finance their activities, and how financial systems contribute to or undermine economic stability.

At the University of Sheffield, this three-year, full-time programme specialises in the methodological dimensions of finance alongside core economics, developing rigorous quantitative and analytical skills that you will apply to the analysis of economic issues and policy questions with a financial dimension. You will study macroeconomics and microeconomics alongside financial economics, econometrics, and quantitative methods, building a toolkit that is genuinely valued in competitive analytical and financial careers. A sandwich year is built into the programme, giving you a full year of professional experience in an economics, finance, or policy environment.
