About this course

Education and mathematics is a combination that reflects both the intellectual richness of each discipline and the very practical reality that mathematics teachers are among the most consistently in-demand graduates in the teaching profession. Education studies examines how human beings learn, how educational systems are organised and what purposes they serve in society, drawing on philosophy, sociology, psychology and history to develop critical perspectives on schooling and learning. At Liverpool Hope University this three-year programme develops your understanding of education as a field of inquiry alongside a genuine grounding in mathematics. You will explore theories of learning and child development, the sociology of educational inequality, the history and philosophy of education and contemporary policy debates, while also studying the mathematical content, including algebra, statistics, analysis and applied mathematics, that gives the degree its quantitative depth.
