Education with History

Education with history is a combination that brings together two subjects concerned with understanding and communicating about human experience across time. Education as an academic discipline asks how people learn, how educational institutions are organised and what purposes they serve, and how policy shapes access and outcomes. History asks how the past is known, what forces drive change, and how events and structures are connected across time.

Together they develop a broad intellectual toolkit and a strong foundation for careers in teaching, education leadership, research, and a range of roles in the public and social sectors.

This three-year full-time programme at Anglia Ruskin University develops your understanding of educational theory and policy alongside historical knowledge and historical methods. You will engage with the history of education itself, exploring how schools, universities, and other educational institutions have changed over time, alongside broader historical content spanning different periods and geographies. With a typical tariff of 104 points, the programme is accessible to students who are motivated by both subjects and who want to develop their analytical and communication skills in an academic environment with clear professional relevance.

Graduates from this programme often continue to a PGCE or School Direct route in history teaching, or move into educational support and leadership roles.
