About this course

Electrical and electronic engineering shapes the world around us in ways that are easy to overlook and impossible to live without. The discipline spans the generation and distribution of electrical power, the design of the circuits and systems that process signals and data, and the integration of electronics into devices ranging from household appliances and medical equipment to aerospace systems and transport infrastructure. It combines the physics of electricity and electromagnetism with the engineering of analogue and digital systems, and its practitioners work at every scale from a single microchip to a national grid.

At Loughborough University you will study the core foundations of the discipline, including circuit theory, electromagnetics, power engineering, signal processing and digital systems, alongside an understanding of their application across domestic, industrial and high-technology contexts. You will develop both theoretical knowledge and the practical skills to design, analyse and test electrical and electronic systems. The programme runs over three years full time, and the breadth of the curriculum gives you a solid foundation for a wide variety of professional roles.

Electrical and electronic engineering graduates are consistently among the most employable in the engineering disciplines. Careers span power generation and distribution, telecommunications, consumer electronics, automotive and aerospace engineering, defence, healthcare technology, robotics, renewable energy and smart infrastructure. Graduate engineers typically pursue chartered status through recognised professional engineering institutions, marking a key milestone in professional development.

Postgraduate study in areas such as power electronics, communications engineering, embedded systems or control engineering is an option for those who wish to develop deeper technical specialisation.
