About this course

Electrical and electronic engineering powers the modern world. From the generation and distribution of electricity to the design of the circuits in every digital device, the discipline sits at the heart of contemporary infrastructure, transport, communications, and healthcare. Electrical engineers work at the scale of power systems and motors; electronic engineers work at the scale of circuits, sensors, and signals.

The two fields are deeply connected, and a degree that covers both gives you a versatile set of skills applicable to some of the most pressing technological challenges of the coming decades, including decarbonising energy systems, developing autonomous vehicles, and advancing medical diagnostics.

At the University of East Anglia, this three-year full-time programme develops your capacity for innovation, collaboration, and ingenuity alongside the core technical knowledge of the discipline. You will study the fundamentals of circuit analysis, electromagnetics, signal processing, control systems, and power engineering, progressing to more advanced topics as the course develops. Laboratory and project work is central to the degree, allowing you to apply theoretical understanding to practical problems and to experience the design and testing process that lies at the heart of engineering practice.

You will also develop skills in communication, teamwork, and problem-solving that employers across industry consistently identify as priorities.

Graduates of electrical and electronic engineering programmes are in high demand across a wide range of industries. Roles in energy companies, telecommunications firms, aerospace and defence contractors, automotive manufacturers, and electronics design houses are all open to you. Typical graduate positions include design engineer, systems engineer, power electronics engineer, and control systems engineer.

The degree provides a foundation for achieving chartered engineer status and for postgraduate study at masters or doctoral level in specialist areas including power systems, signal processing, communications engineering, or embedded systems.
