About this course

Electrical and electronic engineering is a discipline at the core of the modern world, responsible for the power systems that deliver electricity, the communications networks that connect people, the electronic devices and sensors in everything from smartphones to medical equipment, and the control systems that automate industrial processes. Electrical engineers design and build the infrastructure of the digital and electrified economy, and the field is evolving rapidly as renewable energy, electric vehicles, and smart infrastructure reshape what the discipline must deliver.

At UEA, this four-year full-time programme with a year abroad develops your capacity for innovation, collaboration, and ingenuity to tackle society's biggest engineering challenges. Electrical and electronic engineers play a vital role in shaping the future across transport, power generation, heating and cooling, and many other sectors. You will study electrical circuit theory, power electronics, signal processing, control systems, communications, and embedded systems, developing both the theoretical knowledge and the practical engineering skills needed for professional practice.

The year abroad gives you the opportunity to study engineering in an international setting, broadening your technical and cultural perspective. The typical entry tariff is 120 points.

Graduates of electrical and electronic engineering programmes work in power generation and distribution, telecommunications, automotive and aerospace engineering, consumer electronics, defence, healthcare technology, and engineering consultancy. The foundational nature of the discipline means that graduates are employable across virtually every technology-intensive sector. Many pursue professional engineering accreditation and work towards Chartered Engineer status, while others go on to postgraduate study in power systems, communications engineering, or embedded systems.
