About this course

Electronic and electrical engineering is at the heart of the technologies that define modern life. From the power systems that distribute electricity across national grids to the microprocessors in smartphones, from renewable energy converters to smart infrastructure and communications networks, the work of electronic and electrical engineers shapes how energy is generated, transmitted, and used, and how information is processed and communicated. It is a discipline that demands both theoretical rigour and practical ingenuity, asking you to understand the physics of electricity and electronics deeply enough to design systems that work reliably in the real world.

At Leeds Beckett this three-year full-time programme is accredited and developed to produce engineers ready for a connected global future. You will design, test, and refine technologies working with electronics and systems behind energy networks, smart infrastructure, communications, and control systems, learning to question how things work and apply creative thinking to real-world problems. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement, giving you an unusually rich combination of professional and international experience during your studies.

The accreditation means the degree is recognised within the relevant engineering professional frameworks and contributes to the requirements for Chartered Engineer status.

Electronic and electrical engineering graduates are in consistent demand across a wide range of sectors. Power engineering, telecommunications, electronics design, embedded systems, automotive and aerospace engineering, renewable energy, defence, and manufacturing automation are among the most direct career destinations.
