About this course

Electronic and electrical engineering is the discipline that underpins the technologies shaping the modern world. From the smart systems in vehicles and buildings to the power electronics driving the energy transition and the communications infrastructure that connects global society, electronic and electrical engineers design, build and maintain the systems on which contemporary life depends. The field spans electronics, communications, electrical power and intelligent systems, and it is one of the most consistently in-demand areas of engineering.

At Chichester, this three-year full-time programme includes a foundation year and a sandwich year with a work placement, giving you both an accessible academic entry route and substantial professional experience in industry. The foundation year builds the mathematical and scientific foundations needed to succeed at degree level in a technically demanding discipline. The main programme then develops your understanding of the core aspects of electronic and electrical engineering, including circuits and systems, electromagnetism, signal processing, power electronics and communications.

The sandwich year allows you to apply your skills in a professional engineering context, building the practical competence and professional awareness that employers value alongside academic knowledge.

The programme engages with the rapidly growing fields of smart systems and connected devices, reflecting the direction of the industry and preparing you for roles in sectors that are investing heavily in electronic and electrical technologies.

Graduates work across electronics manufacturing, telecommunications, power engineering, automotive and aerospace engineering, renewable energy, defence and smart systems development. Many graduates pursue professional accreditation, and postgraduate study in specialist engineering areas is a well-supported option.
