About this course

Electronic engineering and computer science is a degree that sits at the interface of hardware and software, and it addresses the fact that in modern systems the two are inseparable. Electronic engineers design and build the physical systems that sense, process, and communicate information. Computer scientists design the algorithms, software, and architectures that make those physical systems intelligent and useful.

As the boundaries between hardware and software continue to blur, particularly in areas like embedded systems, the Internet of Things, autonomous vehicles, and wearable technology, graduates who understand both are increasingly valuable.

At Aston University, this three-year, full-time programme includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and work placement experience, all of which give it a strong professional and international dimension. The academic content covers circuit design, digital electronics, microprocessors, signal processing, communications systems, algorithms and data structures, software engineering, operating systems, and machine learning, building an integrated understanding of how electronic and computing systems are designed and implemented. Aston has strong industry connections in both engineering and technology, and the programme is designed with graduate employability in mind alongside academic rigour.

The sandwich year and work placements give you direct professional experience in industry, typically in technology, telecommunications, defence, automotive, or consumer electronics companies.
