About this course

Electronics and computer engineering sits at the convergence of two disciplines that together underpin virtually all of modern technology. Electronics is concerned with the behaviour of electrons in circuits, devices, and systems, from individual transistors to complex integrated circuits, communications systems, and signal processing hardware. Computer engineering applies engineering principles to the design of computing systems, from processor architecture and embedded control systems through to operating systems, real-time software, and the hardware-software interface.

Together they address both the physical substrate of computing and the software that gives it meaning, producing engineers who can work across both layers.

At the University of Leeds, this three-year full-time programme offers an ambitious structural package alongside the core engineering content: a sandwich year in industry with work placement, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities, all combined in a programme at one of the UK's leading universities for electronic and electrical engineering. The sandwich year places you within a real engineering organisation, applying your knowledge of hardware, software, and systems to genuine engineering problems and building the professional networks that matter in this sector. The year abroad gives you international experience, which is increasingly valuable in an engineering profession that is global in its commercial and research dimensions.
