About this course

Engineering Management is a discipline that bridges the technical world of engineering with the organisational demands of leading projects, teams and businesses. Engineers are excellent at solving technical problems, but the most impactful work happens when that technical expertise is combined with the ability to plan strategically, manage resources, lead diverse teams and deliver complex projects on time and within budget. Engineering Management programmes are designed to develop exactly this combination, producing graduates who understand both the technical and the managerial dimensions of bringing engineering projects from idea to delivery.

At Loughborough University, this full-time three-year programme combines the problem-solving foundations of engineering with planning, management and organisational elements, developing your ability to operate at the interface of engineering practice and business strategy. You will study technical engineering principles alongside management science, project management, operations and leadership, building a portfolio of skills that equips you to contribute across a wide range of industrial and commercial contexts. The typical entry tariff of 136 points reflects a selective programme that expects strong prior preparation in both scientific and analytical subjects.

Engineering Management graduates are particularly valued by employers who need people who can work credibly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Major engineering companies, infrastructure organisations, manufacturing businesses, consultancies and public sector bodies all recruit engineering managers for roles in project leadership, operations management, production engineering, supply chain management and business development. The degree also provides a strong foundation for further professional development and postgraduate study in engineering management, project management or business administration, and many graduates work towards professional accreditation through the relevant engineering institutions.

The course has exceeded my expectations. The best part: the cohort are bright and motivated, which makes the learning environment great. If I'm honest, some seminar groups were too big for meaningful discussion. On the city β€” good transport…
