About this course

Environmental geoscience is the study of the Earth's physical systems and how they interact with human activity, examining the natural processes that shape the planet's surface, atmosphere, and subsurface alongside the environmental challenges that arise from those interactions. It draws on geology, physical geography, hydrology, ecology, and environmental science to address questions about climate change, resource management, natural hazards, soil contamination, groundwater, and the sustainable use of the Earth's materials and ecosystems. It is a discipline that combines rigorous fieldwork with laboratory analysis and data interpretation.

At Birkbeck College, this three-year programme combines research-led teaching, hands-on fieldwork, and industry-inspired experiential learning to equip you with the knowledge and skills to address today's pressing environmental challenges.
