Environmental Management
Environmental management is the discipline concerned with how natural systems are understood, governed, and protected, and how the competing demands of economic development and environmental sustainability are balanced in practice. It draws on science, geography, economics, law, and social science to address questions about how land, water, air, and biodiversity are managed, how environmental policy is developed and implemented, and how organisations can reduce their impact on the natural world.
At Queen's University Belfast, this three-year full-time BSc explores the physical, social, economic, and cultural dimensions of environmental management. You will develop expertise in sustainable development, conservation biology, environmental planning, and the legislative frameworks that govern environmental protection. The programme combines scientific and social science approaches, reflecting the reality that effective environmental management requires both technical knowledge and an understanding of the human and political contexts in which decisions are made.
An environmental work placement is included, giving you direct professional experience in a relevant setting and helping you build the practical skills and industry connections that employers value. The typical entry tariff is 136 UCAS points.
Graduates of environmental management programmes find careers in environmental consultancy, local and national government environmental agencies, water and energy utilities, planning and development, nature conservation organisations, corporate sustainability, and international environmental bodies.
