Environmental Science

Environmental science is an interdisciplinary field that draws on biology, geography, earth science and chemistry to understand the complex systems that sustain life on Earth and the ways in which human activity is putting pressure on those systems. Climate change, habitat loss, resource depletion, pollution and the collapse of biodiversity are among the defining challenges of our era, and environmental scientists are central to generating the evidence that informs how societies respond.

At Liverpool Hope University you will develop the practical and theoretical knowledge needed to address global environmental challenges. The programme covers climate science, ecology, sustainable resource management, biodiversity conservation, environmental policy and the field and laboratory methods used to investigate environmental problems. The degree runs over three years full time and includes a sandwich year in industry, a year abroad and work placement opportunities, giving you a rich combination of professional experience and international exposure that connects your academic understanding to real-world practice in different environmental contexts.

Graduates from environmental science degrees work across a wide range of sectors and roles. Environmental consultancies, conservation bodies, government agencies, water utilities, planning departments, national parks, international organisations and research institutions all offer relevant careers.
