About this course

Environmental science is an inherently interdisciplinary field, drawing on biology, chemistry, earth science, ecology, and social science to understand the natural world and humanity's impact on it. It addresses some of the most urgent challenges of our time: climate change and its consequences, biodiversity loss, soil and water degradation, air pollution, and the management of natural resources. Environmental scientists gather evidence, analyse systems, and inform the decisions of governments, businesses, and communities about how to protect and manage the natural environment.

At Nottingham Trent University, this four-year full-time programme begins with a foundation year, designed for students who may not have covered all the sciences required for direct entry to the degree. The foundation year builds your scientific confidence and your grounding in the key disciplines before you move into the main degree programme. You will then study ecology, environmental chemistry, climate science, geographical information systems, environmental policy, and field methods, developing both the scientific knowledge and the practical skills needed to work in environmental monitoring, assessment, and management.
