Environmental Science

Environmental science is an inherently interdisciplinary field, drawing on biology, chemistry, earth science, and social science to understand the natural world and the ways in which human activity is transforming it. It addresses questions of pressing global importance, from climate change and biodiversity loss to pollution, resource depletion, and the sustainability of the food and water systems on which humanity depends. Working in environmental science means being comfortable with fieldwork, laboratory analysis, data interpretation, and communication to diverse audiences, including the public, policymakers, and businesses.

At Aberystwyth University, this four-year full-time programme includes an integrated year in industry, giving you a year of professional environmental work experience before you graduate. Aberystwyth's location on the west coast of Wales, surrounded by some of the UK's most dramatic natural landscapes, provides an exceptional setting for the fieldwork that is central to the degree. You will engage with the major environmental issues of our time, developing a scientific understanding of their causes and dynamics as well as the practical skills needed to contribute to their solution.
