About this course

Fashion business and promotion sits at the point where the creative world of fashion meets the commercial and communicative disciplines that sustain and develop it. The fashion industry depends not only on design talent but on the ability to understand markets, develop brands, manage merchandise, plan promotional campaigns and communicate effectively across the digital channels through which fashion increasingly reaches its audiences. Social media buying, influencer marketing, content creation, advertising and brand strategy are now central to how fashion labels and retailers operate, and graduates who understand both the industry and these disciplines are increasingly sought.

This three-year full-time degree at the University of Salford prepares you to take a leading role in the fast-moving and constantly evolving fashion industry. You will study the business dimensions of fashion, including buying, merchandising, retail management and brand development, alongside the communication and promotional skills needed to reach and engage fashion audiences across digital and traditional channels. The programme develops your understanding of the fashion system, from production and supply chains to consumer behaviour and the role of social media, equipping you to work at the intersection of commerce and communication in a sector where those boundaries are increasingly blurred.

Graduates work across fashion retail, brand management, fashion marketing, buying and merchandising, digital content creation, fashion journalism, PR and fashion communication. Many work for fashion brands, department stores, fashion agencies and media companies, while others develop careers in e-commerce, luxury goods and the digital side of the fashion business. The practical and commercial focus of the programme makes graduates directly employable in a range of fashion business roles.

Further study in fashion business, marketing or communications is an option for those seeking specialist expertise or leadership roles.

A great decision
Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: the careers office is relentless about getting you internships. If I'm honest, admin can be slow to respond, especially at start of term. On the city — the city is a brilliant student city

Worth it overall
Overall a solid programme but worth going in with open eyes. The best part: the teaching staff are genuinely world-class and accessible. If I'm honest, accommodation allocation was stressful in the first year. On the city — the city is a br
