At the University of Cumbria, this three-year full-time Film and Television programme takes a strongly practical approach, working with industry-standard facilities including Media Suites and a dedicated TV Studio. You will develop expertise in camera work, lighting, sound, editing, scriptwriting, producing, and directing, working across a variety of projects and live briefs that include short films, TV studio productions, documentaries, experimental pieces, and music videos. The variety of formats means you develop flexibility and a broad range of technical and creative skills, rather than narrowly specialising before you have found your voice.
The discipline of making things for screen teaches you to communicate through images and sound, to collaborate effectively with a team, to manage a project from planning through production to post-production, and to respond creatively to constraints of budget, time, and brief. These are capabilities with value both within the screen industries and in the broader world of visual communication.
Graduates from film and television programmes pursue careers as directors, cinematographers, editors, sound designers, producers, and production managers across the film, television, documentary, advertising, and digital content industries. Many also work in corporate video, events production, and educational media.
