Film, TV and Games Music is a discipline focused on one of the most technically demanding and creatively rich areas of contemporary composition: writing music that works in close relationship with moving images and interactive media. Composers for film and television must understand not only harmony, orchestration, and form but also how music shapes narrative, builds emotional atmosphere, and guides an audience's attention. Games music adds a further dimension, requiring composers to think about interactive and non-linear structures in which the listener's path through the material cannot be predicted in advance.

At Leeds Conservatoire, this three-year, full-time degree introduces you to the fundamentals of composing for film and television, and extends those principles into the interactive world of games. You will explore different approaches to scoring for the screen, examining how music interacts with visual media and how the traditions of different genres have evolved. Through interactive group seminars, you will discuss your own work, exchange ideas with peers, and examine the ways music shapes narrative and emotion in moving images.

The practical, conservatoire environment means you will develop your compositional voice while also acquiring the technical and collaborative skills that the industry demands.

Graduates from this programme are well prepared for careers in screen and games composition, sound design, music production, and music supervision, as well as roles in the broader music industry that require compositional fluency and technical knowledge of recorded and produced sound. The skills you develop, including the ability to work to brief, meet deadlines, and collaborate with directors and producers, are transferable to advertising, theatre, and other contexts where music and image meet.
