About this course

Finance with a focus on investment banking addresses one of the most technically demanding and commercially consequential areas of the financial services industry. Investment banks advise corporations and governments on mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, restructuring and other major financial transactions, and they operate trading and asset management businesses that sit at the heart of global capital markets. A degree that prepares you specifically for this environment combines rigorous financial theory with the quantitative tools and market knowledge that investment banking roles demand.

At the University of Exeter this programme is supported by a partnership with the CQF Institute, a globally recognised body supporting education in finance and quantitative finance, and students benefit from free membership to the Institute, which provides access to resources and professional recognition relevant to careers in quantitative finance. The programme runs full time over three years and includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and work-placement experience, giving you a combination of professional experience in financial services and international exposure that significantly strengthens your profile for a competitive graduate sector. You will study corporate finance, financial markets and instruments, investment analysis, derivatives, risk management, financial modelling and the quantitative methods that underpin advanced financial analysis.

You will develop strong quantitative and analytical skills alongside the financial knowledge and professional awareness needed to contribute in investment banking and related financial careers from the outset.

Graduates from finance with investment banking programmes move into investment banking analyst roles, sales and trading, asset management, corporate finance advisory, risk management, financial technology and wealth management. Postgraduate study in finance, financial mathematics or business administration is also a route taken by those seeking specialist or senior roles.
