About this course

Finance is concerned with how money is raised, invested, managed, and distributed across individuals, organisations, and economies. It sits at the heart of the decisions that drive business strategy, government policy, and the global economy, and professionals who understand financial markets, corporate finance, investment analysis, and risk management are among the most valued in any modern economy. Finance graduates are sought across banking, asset management, insurance, corporate treasury, private equity, and a wide range of consultancy and advisory roles.

At the University of Stirling, this four-year full-time programme develops your expertise in finance within a Scottish and UK context that is itself a major centre for financial services. You will study the principles of corporate finance, investment theory, financial markets, risk and return, financial analysis, and the quantitative methods that underpin professional financial work. The programme develops your ability to evaluate financial information, model business and investment decisions, and communicate your analysis clearly to professional and non-professional audiences.

A year abroad is part of the programme, giving you the opportunity to study at a partner institution in another country and to develop an international perspective on financial systems, regulations, and markets that is increasingly essential for careers in global finance.

You will develop strong quantitative skills, the ability to read and interpret financial data and reports, and the analytical judgement needed to make sound financial decisions in complex and uncertain environments.

Graduates go on to careers in investment banking, asset management, corporate finance, financial analysis, treasury management, risk management, and financial advisory roles across all sectors of the economy. Scotland's own financial services sector, including major institutions in Edinburgh and Glasgow, provides strong local graduate opportunities. Many graduates pursue professional qualifications with bodies such as the CFA Institute or ACCA.

Postgraduate study in finance is a well-supported route.

Exceeded expectations
I've grown so much academically and personally here. The best part: small-group tutorials really push your thinking. If I'm honest, first-year classes can be quite large. On the city β€” the city is a brilliant student city with plenty to do …

A great decision
I was sceptical before starting β€” now I'd recommend it to anyone. The best part: the careers office is relentless about getting you internships. If I'm honest, a few modules feel under-resourced compared to the flagship ones. On the city β€” …
