About this course

Football journalism is a specialist discipline that sits at the intersection of sports journalism, media production and the unique cultural world of football, the world's most popular sport. It encompasses the full range of journalistic skills, from news reporting and feature writing through broadcast presentation and digital content production, applied specifically to the coverage of football across all its dimensions: club and international football, the business of the game, fan culture, history and the increasingly globalised media landscape around the sport. A degree in football journalism develops both the craft of journalism and the depth of subject knowledge that distinguishes a specialist.

At the University of Derby this programme includes a foundation year, opening the degree to a wider range of students, and incorporates a year abroad that gives you international media experience. The course has strong relationships with football clubs across the Premier League, English Football League and non-league game, as well as with media outlets and PR agencies, giving you direct access to the professional football environment from early in your studies.
