Football Science
Football science is an applied discipline that brings the methods and knowledge of sport and exercise science to bear on the specific physical, psychological and tactical demands of football. It draws on exercise physiology, biomechanics, sport psychology, performance analysis, nutrition and strength and conditioning to understand how footballers train, perform, recover and develop, and it equips graduates with the scientific and professional tools to support player and team performance at all levels of the game.
At the University of St Mark and St John, this three-year full-time degree is built for those who want to pursue a career in football with a genuine scientific and professional foundation. You will develop expertise in the science of athletic performance as it applies to football, learning to assess and improve physical conditioning, to analyse performance data, to support player welfare and recovery, and to understand the psychological dimensions of individual and team performance. An optional one-year professional industry experience gives you the opportunity to develop your practical knowledge in a real football environment, which is a significant advantage when entering the job market.
