About this course

Forensic science applies natural science principles to the investigation of crime and legal proceedings. It draws on chemistry, biology, physics and computing to analyse physical evidence, from DNA and trace materials to digital data and toxicology results, providing the objective scientific information that courts, investigators and legal professionals rely on. It is a discipline that requires both technical precision and a thorough understanding of the legal and procedural frameworks that govern how evidence is collected, handled, analysed and presented.

At the University of the West of England, Bristol, this three-year full-time degree is accredited by the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences, which provides important professional recognition and ensures the curriculum meets the standards of the forensic science profession. The programme is available with a foundation year for students who need additional scientific preparation before entering degree-level study.
