About this course

Games development is one of the most technically and creatively demanding areas of digital media. Video games are among the most complex software systems created by human beings, combining real-time physics simulation, rendering, artificial intelligence, audio, narrative design, and user interface into a seamless interactive experience. The games industry is also one of the most economically significant creative sectors globally, larger by revenue than film and music combined, and it requires graduates who can work at a high level across both technical and creative dimensions.

This three-year full-time programme at Norwich University of the Arts develops your understanding of game design, programming, engine development, and the creative and commercial principles that underpin successful game production. NUA is a specialist creative and digital arts institution, and its approach to games development reflects that context: you will study technical skills including coding, engine tools, and development workflows alongside design thinking, narrative, world-building, and the artistic dimensions of game creation. With a typical tariff of 104 points, the programme welcomes students who combine genuine creative ambition with the motivation to develop serious technical skills.

You will work in team projects that simulate professional game development pipelines, developing skills in collaboration, version control, project management, and the iterative design and testing process that professional developers use. Building and completing actual game projects is central to the curriculum, and you will graduate with a portfolio of work that demonstrates your capabilities to potential employers or clients.

Graduates move into careers as game developers, programmers, technical artists, game designers, UI and UX specialists, and project managers within the games industry. The technical skills developed on the programme also transfer into other sectors that use interactive media, including education technology, simulation and training, film and television visual effects, and immersive experience design. Some graduates continue to postgraduate study or launch independent development projects.
