Recent technological advances in genome editing and sequencing have transformed our ability to study gene function. These developments underpin human health, biotechnology and biodiversity conservation. At Sussex, our genetics expertise spans areas such as cancer biology, neurological and genetic disorders, and genome organisation and function.

Our experts use modern methods in genetics to track down disease-related genes and to identify new drug treatments. We’re also home to the Genome Damage and Stability Centre , a University of Sussex Centre of Excellence.
