Geography & Environmental Science
Geography and environmental science is a degree that takes the interconnection between natural systems and human societies as its central subject. Physical geography examines the processes that shape the Earth's surface, atmosphere, soils, water systems and climate. Environmental science applies the tools of ecology, chemistry, biology and earth science to understand how ecosystems function and how human activity is disrupting them.
Together these fields address some of the most consequential questions of our time, from climate change and biodiversity loss to water security, land use and the sustainability of human settlement.
At King's College London, this three-year full-time BSc (Hons) covers physical geography in depth alongside environmental science, spatial data science and the social and development dimensions of environmental change. You will develop skills in fieldwork, environmental monitoring, geographic information systems and quantitative data analysis, alongside the scientific literacy needed to engage with environmental evidence and policy. The programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study at a partner institution in a different country and to encounter environmental systems and challenges beyond the UK context.

Geography and environmental science graduates are sought across environmental consultancy, conservation, public health, urban planning, sustainability roles in business and government, environmental law, international development and research. The combination of physical and environmental expertise with spatial data skills is particularly valued by the growing number of organisations that need professionals who can understand and communicate evidence about environmental change. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in environmental management, ecology, climate science, geography or related disciplines.
