Geography

Geography is a discipline that sits deliberately at the boundary between the natural and social sciences, asking how physical environments and human societies interact, shape each other, and change over time. It encompasses the study of climate, landscapes, ecosystems, and natural hazards alongside the examination of cities, migration, development, inequality, and resource use. Geographers are trained to think spatially, to understand the world through the lens of place and process, and to apply that thinking to some of the most pressing problems of our time: climate change, ecological disruption, unequal development, and the governance of shared natural resources.

At Nottingham Trent University, this four-year full-time programme attracts students who are passionate about how humans interact with the environment and want to make a meaningful contribution to addressing contemporary challenges. You will study across physical and human geography, developing expertise in both the natural science of environments and the social science of human societies and economies. The programme encourages you to connect understanding of how the world works to the practical and policy questions of how it might be improved.

You will develop skills in fieldwork, data analysis, GIS and mapping, research methodology, and scientific and academic writing, alongside the broader analytical and critical thinking capacities that geographical training develops.

Fieldwork is central to geography education, taking you out of the classroom to observe and analyse real places and environments.
